travels back in time from 1972 to 1912 in search of a beautiful woman
whose photograph has captured his heart.

Grand Hotel
on Mackinac Island every fall to honor the film.

 

The Grand Hotel’s “Somewhere In Time” Package Is Very Romantic

Don’t miss your chance to travel back in time! Every year the Grand Hotel has a weekend celebrating this romantic and epic movie. It’s always sometime in October so check out this year’s Grand Hotel’s “Somewhere in Time” Romantic weekend.

This is the perfect weekend for movie lovers who want to know the cinematic secrets of the timeless classic film that was filmed at the Grand Hotel and on Mackinac Island in 1979 and released in
1980.

The weekend includes:

• a screening of the film,
• discussions
  of the movie’s production process,
• visits with returning cast and crew,
  and
• hotel guests are invited to make a cameo appearance in costume at
  the cocktail receptions, costume promenade, and Grand Luncheon Buffet.
• A
  full breakfast and five-course dinner are included daily.

Most of those attending this event dress in vintage clothing, adding to
the nostalgic atmosphere during their stay. Each year there are tours of the actual movie locations, a celebrity panel, trivia contest, a
costume promenade, cocktail parties, dinners, and much more.

Various
members of the cast and crew attend every year. Christopher Reeve
attended in 1994 and Jane Seymour in 2002. It is said to be a memorable
event, highly anticipated and greatly enjoyed.

One of the Island extras, James P. Dunnigan, accidentally spoke during
one of his scenes and it was decided that they would keep it in the
movie.

Consequently, he had to join the Screen Actors Guild, got his
name in the credits and received a royalty check from time to time! It
was great fun and he enjoyed every minute of the adventure!

 Marcia’s Insider tip: If you are biking around the Island, be
on the lookout for the “IS IT YOU?” plaque commemorating the site where
that scene was filmed. It is located lakeside with a view of the
Mackinac Bridge
in the background.
